VIDEO: Bench Clearing Brawl In Mexico Canada World Baseball Classic: Taillon, Leroux Safe and Sound

Jameson Taillon is safe.  Chris Leroux is safe.  Russell Martin is in Florida.  Thank.  God.

The first thing we think of when something like this happens is how it could go wrong for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Call it twenty years of nothing but doom if you will.  We immediately imagined the headline.

Pirates Lose Top Pitching Prospect In Brawl

We should have known better.    It’s a baseball brawl.

The brawl all came about when Martin’s replacement in the WBC, catcher Chris  Robinson laid down a bunt base hit on the first pitch of the NINTH inning with Canada clinging to a 9-3 lead.  Stay Classy Canada.  And don’t tell me about they needed to keep scoring runs–wanna score runs?  Don’t f****king bunt.

Of course Mexico didn’t appreciate it.  It’s easy to see in some of the videos Mexico’s third baseman Luis Cruz letting his pitcher know what’s up.

Arnold Leon brushed back Rene Tosoni twice.  Umpire Gorman issued the warning, and then came the beaning.  About that time all hell broke loose.   Cruz and Robinson get tangled up in the beginning of the video.   Seven players were ejected from the game.

After everything cleared, it’s easy to see that Taillon and Leroux are not beaten, nor battered.   Around the 4:58 mark of the video you can see Leroux reaching into one of the piles, but it looks like he is simply breaking things up. Leroux later flashed his Canada jersey at a fan and seconds later, his pitching coach was hit in the forehead with something thrown from the stands.

Thankfully Russell Martin is no where near this madness.

In more important matters, Leroux looked sharp in his first World Baseball Classic start.   It makes us wonder when he will get his shot with the Bucs?

The big win by Canada sets up a showdown with Team USA on Sunday with all of it on the line and Taillon will be on the mound for Team Canada.
