VIDEO: John Holdzkom Spooked By Fan’s Scream

Pirates John Holdzkom infographic.

John Holdzkom was spooked during his delivery against the Atlanta Braves in the eighth inning of a 1-0 ballgame.  It was the first time something bad has happened to the Pittsburgh Pirates reliever this season. The Braves announcer said he had never seen that before in a big league game.  We haven’t either, but we also haven’t heard of a player coming from Independent League Baseball to Major League Baseball in the matter of months before either.  Well outside of Hollywood I guess.

Heh! Maybe that’s the nickname.  Hollywood Holdzkom?

Check out the video from Major League Baseball website below:

John Holdzkom materialized on the Pittsburgh Pirates scene with the September call-ups.  Few had heard the John Holdzkom story, but just watching his stuff was fascinating. The towering reliever has downward breaking pitches that look like some of the golf balls I hit.  The fastball is in the mid to upper 90’s and he features a devestating PALMball (you must say PALM a little bit louder than ball when you say that word out loud.)

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle wasted no time inserting him a relief role and Holdzkom responding with zeroes.

Since his callup, the 6’9″ fireballer has thrown eight innings, allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out twelve.

Now Hollywood Holdzkom looks to write a really interesting ending in the month of October for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
