Josh Bell has plenty of eyes on him this Fall in the Arizona Fall League. Â Bell is putting his first base skills on display in game action for the first time. Â But last night, Bell was the designated hitter last night and reached base twice for the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Joely Rodriguez got the start for the Scottsdale Scorprions last night. Â The southpaw pitched 2.1 innings ( 46 pitches-27 strikes ) allowing four hits. Rodriguez gave up one run, struckout two, and walked one.
Josh Bell was the DH and got hit by a pitch from Mark Appel in his first at bat. Â Appel pitched three innings of one hit ball for Salt River. Â Bell singled off Christian Bergman and scored in the fourth. Â In the sixth, he had the dreaded infield flyout by eventual game winner Jake Reed.
Adrian Sampson pitched the ninth inning for the Scorpions who lost the game courtesy of a three run fourth inning. Â Sampson, who pitched well for AA Altoona in 2014, needed just 12 pitches to retire Salt River in order-one groundball and two flyouts.
Some tweets on Rodriguez in case you missed them from Bernie Pleskoff, a former scout for the Astros and Mariners. Â The trouble came for Rodriguez in the second inning. Â He pitched to one batter in the third and was pulled.
#Pirates Rodriguez likes to work low and outside to both righties and lefties. Will have to come inside at some point. Command isn't there.

#Pirates Rodriguez being slow to the plate w/ runners on has cost two stolen bases (2nd and 3rd) in the 2nd. Wild pitch scores a run.
