A Corey Hart blast was not enough for the Pittsburgh Pirates to overcome the Baltimore Orioles in Grapefruit League action on Thursday, as Clint Hurdle‘s club fell to the O’s by a 6-4 final.

Radhames Liz took the ball for Hurdle, tip-toeing out of trouble in the first before putting up a scoreless second inning of work before handing the ball over to the Pirates’ relief corps. Baltimore center fielder Adam Jones launched a homer off Arquimedes Caminero, who has been largely impressive this spring.

Going into today’s action, Liz and Caminero had both performed well for the club, thereby strengthening the belief that both would make the club out of spring training.  Despite the rough outing by Caminero, this still figures to be the case.  Please see our game recap linked below for more thoughts on how the bullpen may end up shaking out.

After the outing, Liz offered his thoughts on the afternoon:

Hurdle also spoke on the team’s loss – which can largely be attributed to the struggles of the relief corps, which is believed to be one of the team’s biggest assets heading into the regular season next month.

Of course, if you missed the game (meaning you were caught up in a tremendous day of March Madness and forgot, albeit briefly, about baseball) – we have the highlights from Thursday’s content in a nifty, short video right here, including Corey Hart’s blast:
