The Pittsburgh Pirates have had an excellent week, going 4-2 in their six games played. Any disappointment leftover after splitting a very-winnable series against the San Diego Padres was quickly swept away after the Bucs took all three games against the defending champion San Francisco Giants. The sweep has put the team in a great position for a very successful road trip as they open a three game series in Atlanta tonight.

So who was the player most responsible for the previous week’s success in Pittsburgh Pirates baseball?

Starting this week, we will take Friday mornings to completely rank the entire 25-man Pirates roster and try to find that answer. Let’s get started with #25-#21

team. 4. If we didn’t make a pledge to rank EVERY player on the Pirates 25-man, <strong><a href=. #12. Previous: n/ath. Corey Hart. 25

team. 4. <strong><a href=. #59. Previous: n/ath. Antonio Bastardo. 24

4. <strong><a href=. #49. Previous: n/ath. Jeff Locke. 23. team

21. team. 4. <strong><a href=. #3. Previous: n/ath. Sean Rodriguez

We continue with the next five Buccos on the next slide.

We continue on with our complete 25-man power rankings for the previous week in Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.

4. <strong><a href=. #34. Previous: n/ath. Chris Stewart. 15. team

#24. Previous: n/ath. Pedro Alvarez. 14. team. 4. Despite costly errors and only so-so defense, Alvarez occupies the #14 spot in our rankings by simply being a power threat towards the latter part of the lineup and keeps pitchers honest. Sure, he only slashed .222/.263/.333 for the week but he only struck out four times and did come through with two RBIs. That’s something, right?  Right. So let’s move on before we really start talking about the defense.

#25. Previous: n/ath. Gregory Polanco. 13. team. 4. <strong><a href=

<strong><a href=. #27. Previous: n/ath. Jung Ho Kang. 12. team. 4

I’m just as surprised as you are. Just like Kang up above, Jose’s RBI in the last Giants game, part of a 2-for-4 night, showed that he can come through in a spot start. Although his stats for this particular week are not impressive in part-time pinch hit at-bats, he is exactly what we expected, and has not had any major headaches, outfield wall collisions aside.. #. Previous: n/ath. Jose Tabata. 11. team. 4

Next we’ll face some tough choices as we try to whittle down the cream of the crop from the past week in Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.

Finally, we get into the top 5 Pittsburgh Pirates of the week.
