Result: Pirates lose 7-4

Winning Pitcher: Jimmy Nelson (11-10, 3.70ERA)

Losing Pitcher: Gerrit Cole (15-8, 2.64ERA)

  • What went right:
    • Jung Ho Kang went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
    • Aramis Ramirez homered in his return to Milwaukee. He went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
    • Radhames Liz looked very good in his return to the Big Leagues. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits in the process.
    • Starling Marte stole a base.
  • What went wrong:
    • Gerrit Cole was not good at all. He went only four innings, allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out two.
    • Jimmy Nelson once again befuddled the Pirates’ bats. He went seven innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out six.
    • The Brewers ran wild on the bases as they stole three bases.
    • Joakim Soria had perhaps his worst outing as a Pirate. He allowed two runs on two hits in 2/3rds of an inning.

The series did not start out very well as the ace did not look the part. Cole never got comfortable and the Brewers controlled the game from the get go. The Pirates looked to bounce back with Mr. First Half on the mound.
