The Pittsburgh Pirates took two of three games against the Chicago Cubs and set themselves up nicely to host the NL Wildcard game for the third straight season. It was a fairly huge series victory as there is a world of difference between playing the Wildcard game at home versus on the road. The Wrigley Field faithful have been itching for a post season game since 2008 and it’s easy to imagine the atmosphere would rival PNC Park in 2013.

The Pirates entered the penultimate series of the regular series still mathematically alive in the NL Central race, but needed to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals to have a chance entering the final regular season series. The Pirates have battled all season and been forced to play catchup against the Cardinals, so could the team complete the comeback and maybe win the NL Central?

Game one featured the Pirates’ biggest trade deadline pickup against a guy they generally hit very well.
