Pirates fans are already familiar with one of their top pitching prospects Tyler Glasnow. Now, the rest of the baseball world is finding out about him.

Glasnow was ranked the second best right handed pitching prospect in baseball in a list compiled by Jim Callis on MLB.com.

Obviously with the concerns about the bottom of the current rotation, most Pirates fans are anxious to see Glasnow or Jameson Taillon, who missed the second half of the season after hernia surgery, pitching for the big club in Pittsburgh.

However, if you look at the way the Pirates have handled their prospects in the past, it is unlikely Glasnow will be pitching the big leagues any time soon. He has only eight starts at Class AAA Indianapolis where he posted 3.51 ERA. He is only 22 years old which is another reason the Pirates won’t rush him. The only way we see Glasnow in a Pirates uniform in the first half of the season is if they run out of internal options.

With that said, it is a nice thing that the Bucs have one of the top prospects waiting in the wings. It’s more likely he will be part of the 2017 rotation than the 2016. Of course, if he pitches well in Indy, we could see him sooner than expected.
