The Pirates have acquired left handed pitcher Jesse Biddle from the Phillies according to MLB Trade Rumors. In return, the Pirates have shipped over right handed pitcher Yoervis Medina. Both pitchers had recently been designated for assignment. Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com was the first to break the news.

Biddle, 24, had Tommy John surgery this past fall and will miss the 2016 season. He had been a consensus top 100 prospect from 2012 to 2014, but struggled with control while watching his strikeout numbers dip over the past several seasons.

He split time last season in AA and AAA where he posted a 4.95 ERA and 1.660 WHIP.

No doubt the Pirates see some value in Biddle to give up a 40-man roster spot for now. He eventually will end up on the 60-day disabled list while he rehabs the elbow.
