Cutting Pedro Alvarez and Signing John Jaso

This maybe the most obvious one.  Pedro Alvarez is hitting a putrid .186 in 14 games for the Orioles so far.  The truth is .186 is up, at the beginning of the week he was at .108.  He also has seen limited playing time do to Mark Trumbo carrying the load at the DH spot.

Meanwhile, John Jaso has enjoyed a great beginning to his season. He had an 11 game hit streak, is hitting .338, and his OBP is .403 on the year.  So far he is doing exactly what is expected of him, to get on base.

He also has been very sound defensively.  Many were worried about his transition to first base due and if he would be able to do it or not.  So far, so good, no real issues yet from him.

With this the Pirate’s saved about 4 million dollars between the two players.  Alvarez was projected to receive about 8 million dollars while Jaso signed for 8 million over two years or 4 million per year.
