Not Extending Francisco Cervelli:

The Pirates have two catchers of the future in Elias Diaz and Reese McGuire.  However, both are prospects and therefor not sure-fire.  To make matters worse Diaz has not played this year due to elbow discomfort and McGuire is still developing as a hitter.

Jon Heyman reported during the off-season that Francisco Cervelli was open to an extension.

So far Cervelli is off to an extremely strong start, and if he continues to put up strong numbers on both sides of the ball he will be in for a big pay day.  The Pirates should have taken advantage and extended him this off-season, now it seems likely that he will be out of their price range.
