Pittsburgh Pirates Transactions: May 1 – 7
Read on for a run down of roster moves in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization from the first week of May:
Well the big move we’ve all been waiting for finally happened in the past week. Jung Ho Kang was reinstated to the Pittsburgh Pirates active roster, nearly 8 months after suffering a fractured knee on an attempted double play against the Chicago Cubs last September. I had been hoping that he would make his 2016 debut when the Cubs came to town early in the week, but it was not to be. Instead he made it on the road against the Cardinals over the weekend and he made it with a bang, hitting two Home Runs in the Pirates series opening win on Friday night. Other than this, it was a quiet week for transactions, with some corresponding roster moves made in Pittsburgh and Indianapolis to account for Kang’s return. However there was also the promotion of a pitching prospect to Altoona to get excited about.

May 5 – The Pirates optioned First Baseman Jason Rogers to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in anticipation of activating Jung Ho Kang from the Disabled List and re-adding him to the active roster.
May 6 – Right Fielder Mel Rojas, Jr. is assigned to Extended Spring Training from Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made to make room for Jason Rogers on the Indianapolis roster.
May 6 – The Pirates activated Third Baseman Jung Ho Kang from the Disabled List and added him to the active roster. Kang began the season on the Disabled List as he continued to recover from the knee injury he suffered last September. He had begun a rehab assignment in Indianapolis (AAA) since April 18.
These were the major roster mvoes for the week. Check back next week for the roster moves that will be coming. Maybe a Taillon call up? We will see!
