Read on for an overview of the past week’s transactions in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization:

This past week was an active one when it came to transactions. Unfortunately the highly anticipated debut of Jameson Taillon was overshadowed by Francisco Cervelli being placed on the Disabled List.

June 6 – Right-handed pitcher David Whitehead is assigned to Altoona (AA) from GCL Pirates (Rookie).

June 6 – Right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes is assigned to Extended Spring Training from Altoona (AA). This move was made to make room for David Whitehead to be re-added to Altoona’s roster.

June 7 – Indianapolis (AAA) left-handed relief pitcher Jim Fuller is placed on the 7-day disabled list.

June 7 – The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed relief pitcher Wilfredo Boscan from Indianapolis (AAA). The Pirates were able to add him to the active roster without making a corresponding move due to having a doubleheader against the Mets on this day.

June 8 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-handed relief pitcher Wilfredo Boscan to Indianapolis (AAA) a day after recalling him for the doubleheader on June 7.

June 8 – The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon from Indianapolis (AAA). Taillon was brought up to make his Major League debut as a spot start after the doubleheader the previous day.

June 8 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-handed relief pitcher Curtis Partch to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Taillon being added to the active roster.

June 9 – Right Handed Pitcher Frank Duncan is assigned to Indianapolis (AAA) from Altoona (AA).

More from Rum Bunter

June 9 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made the day after Taillon made his Major League debut and was likely done for several reasons, including limiting his innings, ensuring this season wouldn’t count as a full season of service time, and/or replacing him with a reliever to bolster the bullpen.

June 9 – The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled left-handed relief pitcher Kyle Lobstein from Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Taillon being optioned to Indianapolis.

June 10 – Right-handed pitcher Alex McRae is assigned to Altoona (AA) from Bradenton (A-Advanced).

June 11 – right-handed pitcher David Whitehead is placed on the 7-day disabled list.

June 11 – right-hand pitcher Clay Holmes is assigned to Altoona (AA) from Extended Spring Training.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Catcher Francisco Cervelli on the 15-day disabled list with a broken hamate bone in his left-hand. Cervelli is expected to be out for 4 to 6 weeks.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired catcher Erik Kratz from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash. The Pirates made this deal due to the need for a backup catcher with both Francisco Cervelli and Elias Diaz on the disabled list.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates designated right-handed relief pitcher Trey Haley for assignment. Haley has spent the whole season in Indianapolis (AAA), but was on the Pirates’ 40-man roster. This move was made to make room for newly acquired Catcher Erik Kratz on the 40-man and active roster.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates activated right-handed relief pitcher Arquimedes Caminero from the 15-day disabled list. Caminero had previously been in Indianapolis (AAA) for a rehab assignment.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed relief pitcher Rob Scahill from Indianapolis (AAA).

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned left-handed relief pitcher Kyle Lobstein to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Caminero and Scahill being added to the active roster.

June 11 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned second baseman Cole Figueroa  to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Arquimedes Caminero and Rob Scahill being added to the active roster.
