Once a week there will be a Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects roundup on the minor leaguers in the Pirate’s farm system and their stats. It is June and the stat sheets are starting to look the way they should for these players:

These articles will show the prospect’s main stats for the season thus far.  This will give an easy and accessible page to view a prospect’s roundup and how they are doing on the year. Hitter stats will include batting average, RBIs, and OPS, some will have home-runs if they are supposed to be power hitting prospects.  Pitcher stats will include record, ERA, and their strike outs to walks on the season.

Some of the site contributors got to together and created this list after putting together a formula that consists of a number of stats, intangibles, and watching film on them. Their stats are based on their previous season performance and their career lines.  With that stats make up the bulk of how they are rated. Through this we put the prospects in a tiered system, but for these updates it will be easier to use the traditional 1-30 rankings.  Eventually the newly drafted prospects will be added.  The cut off for drafted prospects to sign is July 15th, so once all players have signed or have not, they will be added to the list.  Here is this weeks prospects roundup:

Prospects of the Week:

Josh Bell: 10 for 27 (.370), 6 RBI, 3 Home runs, 7 games played

Adam Frazier: 10 for 28 (.357), 3 RBI, 3 walks to 1 strikeout, 7 games played

Clay Holmes:  0-0 (1 starts), 6 innings pitched, 0 runs, 9 strikeouts, 3 walks

Josh Bell has been a regular on this list, every week his averages seems to go up.  Bell is hot right now and proving why he one of the top prospects in the majors.  He is hitting so well that some are starting to want to see him at the MLB level. Many miss the days of when Josh Harrison was the super utility player on the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Adam Frazier could be the next Josh Harrison.  Frazier can player shortstop, second base, third base, and all three outfield positions.  He will not hit for a ton of power, but has done nothing but hit for great averages in the minors.  He is doing it at AAA this year.  Clay Holmes missed all of the 2014 season and most of the 2015 season.  He had a slow start to the year, but this week he had his best performance of the year striking out nine batters.

More from Rum Bunter

The minors league season is about half way through.  With that we have a really good sample size of the prospects numbers and can fully judge how they are performing this year. The big thing to look for now is the level they are playing.  We have already seen Taillon reach the majors, Waddell and Newman move up to AA, and Meadows move to AAA.  Expect over the next few weeks to see some others receive promotions.  A few weeks ago milb.com had Mitch Keller moving up to Bradenton.  It did not happen.  However, that is one move that will likely happen over the next month or so.  Harold Ramirez also could find himself in AAA before to long.  So expect those two among others to find themselves at the next level sometime soon as the season continues to drive on.

This page gives a nice update on how prospects are performing week to week.  I feel this works better than a daily one as you can really see more of a sample size in the stat changes over a week rather than from day to day. There are not many Pittsburgh Pirates free sites out there that can provide a full-page of the top prospects in the organization with their season stats listed in one spot.  Rather than trying to remember and search each individual player RumBunter will make it easier for you.
