Pittsburgh Pirates: Prospect Roundup 6/22-6/29
Once a week there will be a Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects roundup on the minor leaguers in the Pirate’s farm system and their stats. It is June and the stat sheets are starting to look the way they should for these players:
These articles show the top 30 prospect’s main stats for the season thus far. This will give you an easy and accessible page to view a prospect’s roundup and how they are doing on the year. The hitter stats will include batting average, RBIs, and OPS, some will have home-runs if they are supposed to be power hitting prospects. Pitcher stats will include their win-loss record, ERA, and their strike outs to walks on the season.
Some of the site contributors got to together and created this list after putting together a formula that consists of a number of stats, intangibles, and watching film on them. The stats that were used were based on their previous season performance and their career stat lines. With that being said, stats make up the bulk of how they are rated. Through this we put the prospects in a tiered system, but for these updates it will be easier to use the traditional 1-30 rankings. Eventually the newly drafted prospect will be added. The cut off for drafted prospects to sign is July 15th, so once all players have signed or have not, they will be added to the list. Here is this weeks prospects roundup:

Prospects of the Week:
Kevin Kramer: 8 for 20 (.400), 2 RBI, 3 walks to 3 strikeouts, 6 games played
Yeudy Garcia: 1-0 (starts), 7 innings pitched,0 runs, 9 strikeouts,1 walk
Brandon Waddell: 1-0 (1 starts), 7 innings pitched, 0 runs, 8 strikeouts, 1 walks
Kevin Kramer was a prospect of the week for a few weeks in a row in May. For June, he was batting well, but just not as hot as he was in April and May. Kramer put together a strong week and raised his average by hitting .400 over the last seven days. Yeudy Garcia has one of the most dynamite arms in the organization with a fastball that sits in the upper 90s. However, this week he really impressed by striking out 9 batters and having his best start of the season. Waddell has struggled since being promoted to AA Altoona. Waddell’s biggest issue was that he was walking more batters than he was in Single-A. His last start he only walked one batter and the results were much better.

The minors league season is about half way through. With that we have a really good sample size of the prospects numbers and can fully judge how they are performing this year. The big thing to look for now is the level they are playing. We have already seen Taillon reach the majors, Waddell and Newman move up to AA, and Meadows move to AAA. Over the next few weeks expect to see some other players receive promotions. Mitch Keller has been very good all season at Low-A and should get a chance at High-A soon. Harold Ramirez also could find himself in AAA before to long, with putting together a very consistent last two months.
This page provides an easy to access update on how the top Pittsburgh Pirates prospects are performing on a week to week basis. This works better than daily updates because you can really see more of a sample size in the stat changes over a week rather than from day-to-day. There are not many Pittsburgh Pirates free sites out there that can provide a full-page of the top prospects in the organization with their season stats listed in one spot. Rather than trying to remember and search each individual player RumBunter will make it easier for you.
