Prospects of the Week:

Barrett Barnes: 14 for 31 (.451), 4 RBI, 5 walks to 8 strikeouts, 9 games played

Trevor Williams: 1-1 (2 starts), 10.2 innings pitched, 3 runs, 7 strikeouts, 3 walks

Jose Osuna: 7 for 19 (.368), 5 RBI, 3 Home Runs, 2 walks to 2 strikeouts, 6 games played

Barrett Barnes has become somewhat of a forgotten prospect.  He was the Pittsburgh Pirates second round pick in 2012.  He is a great athlete, but has struggled with staying healthy.  This year he has played 90 games and has put together a good season, including a great week.  Trevor Williams got roughed up last night, which is the first time in a long time.  He has been so good over the last month, that even with a tough outing last night, he still put up strong numbers this week.  Jose Osuna put up strong numbers at Double-A, and has gotten off to a great start at Triple-A.  The most impressive thing was that Osuna had three straight games with a home run.

More from Rum Bunter

The minor league season is over half way through.  With that we have a really good sample size of the prospects numbers and can fully judge how they are performing this year. The big thing to look for now is the level they are playing.  We have already seen Taillon reach the majors, Waddell and Newman move up to AA, and Meadows and Osuna move to AAA. We also have seen Josh Bell and Steven Brault reach the majors and be optioned back down. Look for other prospects to start getting moved up from their current level.  Players such as outfielders Harold Ramirez and Barrett Barnes, pitcher Mitch Keller, and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes likely will be next to move up.

This page provides an easy to access update on how the top Pittsburgh Pirates prospects are performing on a week to week basis.  This works better than daily updates because you can really see more of a sample size in the stat changes over a week rather than from day-to-day. There are not many Pittsburgh Pirates free sites out there that can provide a full-page of the top prospects in the organization with their season stats listed in one spot.  Rather than trying to remember and search each individual player Rum Bunter has made it easier for you.
