Right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow will make his second rehab start on Monday. Like the first one, this start will be fore Double-A Altoona.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ prized right-handed pitching prospect Tyler Glasnow has been on the disabled list since July 24th. Glasnow was placed on the disabled list with ‘right shoulder fatigue’ the day after departing a start against the Philadelphia Phillies early. However, Glasnow is continuing to try and return this season.

On Monday night, Tyler Glasnow will make a rehab start for the Double-A Altoona Curve. Glasnow’s start will be at 7:05pm against the Harrisburg Senators. This will be Glasnow’s second rehab start with the Curve.

Tyler Glasnow previously made a rehab start for the Curve on August 14th. However, this start did not go well for Glasnow. This start also did not last very long.

In his first rehab start Tyler Glasnow pitched just three innings. In those three innings pitched Glasnow allowed two hits, three walks, he hit a batter, and he allowed a home run. Furthermore, Glasnow’s shoulder issues popped up in this start.

Altoona manager Joey Cora alluded to this after the game. He said a big reason as to why Glasnow was removed after just three innings is because things seemed off on the mound. Cora said something seemed to be bothering Tyler Glasnow.

Following this start, I asked if the Pirates should contemplate shutting Glasnow down for the remainder of the season. I argued that shutting Tyler Glasnow down and not risking his long-term health would be the best option. Especially since the Pirates’ rotation has pitched very well lately.

Since his last rehab start Tyler Glasnow has thrown two bullpen sessions. One was in Altoona, and the other was in Pittsburgh under the guidance of Ray Searage. Following these bullpen sessions the Pirates must feel Tyler Glasnow is healthy. If not, he would not be making a rehab start on Monday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates must believe Tyler Glasnow is healthy. Hence the rehab start he will be making on Monday. Hopefully, this rehab start goes well. It would be a huge boost to an already strong starting rotation to get Glasnow back in the fold this year. I just hope this does not mess with his long-term development.
