More Roster Moves Coming For The Pittsburgh Pirates
The first round of September call ups for the Pittsburgh Pirates came on Friday. However, there are more roster moves coming from the Bucs.
The Pittsburgh Pirates started their September call ups this past Friday. On Friday the Bucs recalled Adam Frazier, Jameson Taillon, Jason Rogers, and Steven Brault from the Minor Leagues. The Bucs also activated Chris Stewart off of the 15-day disabled list.
Many people, myself included, speculated that these would not be the only roster moves made by the Pirates this month. And, indeed, these will not be the only roster moves made by the Bucs. On Sunday, the Pirates announced that more roster moves are coming.
The first roster move will come on Monday. This is because on Monday the Pittsburgh Pirates will activate third baseman Jung Ho Kang off of the disabled list. Kang has been on the disabled list since August 21st with a shoulder injury.
On Sunday the Pirates also announced that ace Gerrit Cole will rejoin their starting rotation soon. Gerrit Cole has been on the disabled list since August 29th with elbow inflammation. Prior to going on the disabled list Cole had the worst month of his career in August.
Cole threw a bullpen session with no complications on Friday, and he is slated to throw one on Monday as well. Assuming all goes well, Cole will return to the Pirates’ rotation on September 12th in Philadelphia against the lowly Phillies. Hopefully, Cole will be back and healthy come September 12th. While I do not know for certain, my guess is that Steven Brault will move to the bullpen when Cole returns.
There are more reinforcements on their way for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hopefully the additions of Gerrit Cole and Jung Ho Kang will aide the Pirates in their chase for the postseason. Because, right now, the Pirates are in need of some help.
