The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night

On Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates were looking to capture a series victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Pirates are now 24-29 this season.

Tuesday night’s game started out as a pitcher’s duel between Ivan Nova and Robbie Ray. This came as no surprise as both pitchers have been excellent this season.

The first chance either team had a chance to score came in the bottom of the 4th inning.

To start the inning, Josh Harrison hit a double. Ruling it a double was a bit of a gift though, as it easily could have been ruled an error on Diamondback center fielder Rey Fuentes.

Josh Bell then grounded out to first base, moving Harrison to third base with just one out. However, Arizona starting pitcher Robbie Ray would strikeout David Freese and Francisco Cervelli to end the Pirate threat.

Arizona would get a runner in scoring position for the first time in the top of the 6th inning. Fuentes singled with 1 out and Ray bunted him down to second base.

Chris Owings would then hit a 2-out double to score Fuentes and give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.

Leading off the bottom of the 6th inning Ivan’s nova collected his first hit of the season. However, Jordy Mercer would hit into a double play to quickly thwart any Pirate threat.

The Diamondbacks expanded their lead in the top of the 7th inning.

Paul Goldschmidt led off the inning with a double. After a Jake Lamb broken bat bloop single, the Diamondbacks had men on the corners and no one out.

Ivan Nova then struck out Yasmany Tomas for the first out of the inning. Brandon Drury would hit a slow ground ball into the hole at short that turned into a RBI infield hit to make it 2-0 Diamondbacks.

Chris Hermann then drew a walk to load the bases with just 1 out. Arizona expanded their lead to 3-0 when Fuentes hit into a fielder’s choice. Robbie Ray then grounded out to end the inning.

Ivan Nova allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. His outing lasted 7 innings, as he became the first Pirate since Doug Drabek to pitch at least 6 innings and allow 3 earned runs or less in their first 11 starts of the season.

Daniel Hudson pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning for the Pirates. This continues his good work of late, as he has now pitched 6 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

Wade LeBlanc pitched the 9th for the Pirates. He allowed a 1-out double to Yasmany Tomas. However, he retired the other 3 batters he faced including a pair of strikeouts.

Robbie Ray was absolutely dominant for the Diamondbacks on Tuesday as he pitched Giants first career complete game shutout. He allowed just 4 hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out 10.
