Three members of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ top farm club have been named International League All-Stars

The International League All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 12th at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington. When the game is played, a trio of players for the Pirates’ top farm club will be participating in the game. The three Indianapolis Indians players selected were pitchers Drew Hutchison and Steven Brault, as well as utility man Chris Bostick.

While Bostick has had a short stint in Pittsburgh this season, the other two have spent the entirety of their 2017 seasons at Triple-A. However, that could change as the season progresses. Especially if their strong seasons continue.

For the Indianapolis Indians this season Chris Bostick owns a .338 on-base percentage, .348 wOBA, and an 115 wRC+. He has hit 6 home runs, drive in 32 runs, and has stolen 5 bases. In 5 Major League plate appearances this season the 24-year old Bostick is 0-for-4 with a walk.

Drew Hutchison is one of the most disliked members of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Fans of the Pirates absolutely despise Hutchison, simply because he was in a trade that many perceive to have been a terrible trade by Neal Huntington even though it was a very smart one.

Anyway, Hutchison owns a 3.31 ERA and a 4.33 FIP in 81 2/3 innings pitched at Triple-A this season. He is averaging 7.38 K/9, 3.53 BB/9, and 0.88 HR/9. He has pitched in 15 games, with 13 of them being starts.

Finally, there is the best of the bunch, left-handed pitcher Steven Brault. Brault has pitched 80 1/3 innings in 15 games, 14 starts, at Triple-A this season. He is averaging 8.29 K/9, 3.36 BB/9, and just 0.45 HR/9.

Steven Brault is generating groundballs at a 54.4 percent rate and is holding opponents to just a 16.1 percent line drive rate. He owns a 2.24 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and a 3.90 xFIP. His .222 opponent batting average against is second best in the International League, his 2.24 ERA ranks third, and his 74 strikeouts rank seventh. To be honest, he should be in the Pirate rotation with Chad Kuhl in the bullpen and Antonio Bastardo collecting unemployment.

Next: Jose Osuna Should Play Everyday

Congratulations to Chris Bostick, Drew Hutchison, and Steven Brault on being named International League All-Stars. All three players are deserving of the honor, and it reflects well on the Pirate organization to be sending three players to the game.
