We have looked at the Pittsburgh Pirates top minor league prospects season stat lines. So far we have looked at prospects ranked 1-25. Here are prospects 26-30, and, of course, this will be the last part of the series:
26. Dovydas Neverauskas, Right-Handed Relief Pitcher, Triple-A Indianapolis
Dovydas Neverauskas has slowly established himself a spot in the Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen over the last month. However, he also had a really solid season in Triple-A that led to his opportunity this year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He threw 50.1 innings for Indy and posted a 2.86 earned run average. He struck out 46 batters and posted 13 saves for the Indians.
27. Stephen Alemais, Shortstop, West Virginia Power/Bradenton Marauders
Stephen Alemais was the Pittsburgh Pirates third round pick in the 2016 draft. He was known for his impressive play in the field, but not so much his bat. This was seen in his injury-riddled season. The Tulane product started the year with the West Virginia Power. He played in 29 games and had 121 at-bats. His slash-line was .223/.266/.380. He struck out over once per game piling up 32 K’s in his 29 games. Things got even worse for Alemais when he slid into second base and hurt his thumb. He went on the disabled list for a month. When he returned he was immediately sent to High-A Bradenton. While in High-A, Alemais had a lot more success at the plate. He played in 30 games for the Marauders. His slash line was .317/.393./406. He also only struck out 14 times and he also walked 14 times. If Alemais can carry over this kind of success to the 2018 season, he very well could reestablish himself as a potential future Pittsburgh Pirates player.
28. Jake Brentz, Right-Handed Relief Pitcher, Bradenton Marauders/Altoona Curve
Jake Brentz was acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of the Arquimedes Caminero trade with the Mariners. The hard-throwing righty has a fastball that can hit triple digits, and he showed it off at High-A and Double-A. Brentz threw in 19 games, accumulating 26 innings for the Marauders. He had a 3.81 ERA and struck out 33 batters while walking nine. Batters hit .230 off of him and he had a WHIP of 1.23. He did not have as much success at Double-A. For the Curve, he threw in 14 games for 14 innings. His earned run average was 5.79 and he struck out 16 batters, but also walked 15. Batters only posted an average of .143 against him, but he saw his WHIP escalate to 1.57.
29. Rodolfo Castro, Shortstop/Infielder, Gulf Coast League
Castro has been a rising prospect here on Rum Bunter. The 18-year-old switch hitting shortstop signed with the Bucs back in 2015. This year in the Gulf Coast League Castro had a really strong offensive season. He had a slash line of .277/.344/.479. For most of the season, Castro was hitting over .300, but he saw his average slide some down the home stretch. In his 53 games, he struck out 46 times and walked 16 times. He had six home runs, 12 doubles, and four triples.
30. Edison Lantigua, Outfielder, Short-Season A Bristol
Edison Lantigua is another international free agent who saw a lot of success at his level this season. He was the best hitter for Short-Season Bristol this year. The 20-year-old outfielder had a slash line of .307/.411/.477. He played in 48 games and while he walked 30 times, he also struck out 62 times. This is typical for a young left handed hitter with raw power. Lantigua did contribute four home runs, 14 doubles, and two triples.
