Pittsburgh Pirates home stand report card for June 15-24
By Joe Smeltzer
Bullpen – the good
Tyler Glasnow continues to be a light in a dark tunnel. In four appearances this home stand, Glasnow gave up just one run over seven innings– and that tally, given up in the 13th inning of Friday’s 2-1 loss to Arizona, was aided by shaky defense by Elias Diaz.
Aside from Glasnow, there isn’t much to talk about as far as the bullpen goes. Of the Pirates six losses this home stand, none of which can be attributed to the ‘pen, and aside from Friday’s win over the Reds, there weren’t any games in which the relief pitching as a whole stood out. Glasnow has been awesome, and Felipe Vasquez appears to be regaining his form. Other than that, there just isn’t a lot to report.
The Bad
Michael Feliz is on the DL, so he’ll have to wait longer to bounce back from a brutal stretch in which his ERA has hovered around 10 over his past 11 appearances. The good news is that Richard Rodriguez is back, and that will hopefully be a boost to a uni that lacks in certainty.
It’s hard to grade the Bucco bullpen this week because not a whole lot happened. I say when in doubt, give ’em a C.
