The Pittsburgh Pirates currently have numerous prospects playing out in the Arizona Fall League. Yesterday, it did not go well for their team.

The Arizona Fall League is made up of six different teams including the Surprise Saguaros.  The Pittsburgh Pirates have numerous prospects on the Saguaros.  Yesterday, Surprise took on the Peoria Javelinas who is made up of Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, and the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Javelinas took it to the Saguaros yesterday by a scored of 16 to 8.  Surprise was out hit by a total of 16 to 12.  Meanwhile, all of the Javelinas’ runs were considered earned.  The Saguaros had to use seven pitchers, including two from the Bucs organization.

Pitching for the Saguaros from the Pittsburgh Pirates was Blake Weiman and Matt Eckelman.  Weiman came in first as he relieved the starter in the fourth inning.  The lefty was a 2017 draft pick out of Kansas by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the only reliever not to give up a run for Surprise.  He threw 1.1 innings, struck out one, and gave up two hits. Weiman now owns a 3.00 earned run average for his time in Arizona. Then finishing the game was Matt Eckelman, the other Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect.  He completed the eighth inning and gave up two earned runs on one walk, and two hits including a home run. Meanwhile, he is posting an ERA north of 10 at 13.50.

Despite losing, the Saguaros actually had a good game with the bats.  However, it was not produced by any of the Pittsburgh Pirates prospects.  Bryan Reynolds batted sixth and played in right field.  The Vanderbilt product went 0-3 with two walks and one run scored.  Cole Tucker started at shortstop and batted right after Reynolds at seventh in the order.  He went 1- 3 with a double.  Also, he walked twice and scored a run and batted one in. Reynolds is now batting .200 while Tucker is batting .353.
