Another series victory is in the books for the Pittsburgh Pirates. What did we learn about the Bucs from their series victory at home over the San Francisco Giants?

So far this season just about everything that can go wrong for the Pittsburgh Pirates has. The team’s defense started shaky, the bullpen took a few weeks to get into gear, and the team has been decimated by injuries. Despite all of this, the team is off to a strong 12-7 start.

This 12-7 start has the Bucs in first place in the National League Central division. The team’s hot start has been driven by the starting rotation. Seven series into the season, the Pirate rotation, statistically, has been the best in the National League.

Over the weekend the Pirates hosted the last place team in the National League West – the San Francisco Giants – in a three-game series. After taking two of three from the Giants, the Pirates are now 5-3 at the friendly confines of PNC Park this season. They are also now 4-2-1 in their first seven series of the 2019 season.

The weekend series against the Giants wound up featuring more meaningful moments than any Pirate fan could have anticipated. From the Erik Gonzalez and Starling Marte injuries in Friday night’s victory to Cole Tucker‘s unforgettable debut on Saturday afternoon, this series had it’s fair share of big moments. Also, Sunday’s series finale saw the Pirates five-game winning streak end on a play at the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning.

All of that said, what are three takeaways from the Pirates series victory over the Giants?
