What can fans takeaway from the Pittsburgh Pirates winning their weekend series against the Oakland A’s to get back over .500?

After losing eight games in a row, the Pittsburgh Pirates swept a two-game series in Texas last week. With this series sweep, the Pirates returned home to PNC Park on Friday riding a two game winning streak.

Waiting for the Bucs were the Oakland A’s who entered the series as losers of six in a row. After the A’s decimated the Pirates 14-1 on Friday night and the Pirates fell behind 3-0 in the 1st inning on Saturday night, it looked like it was going to be another long weekend for the home team. However, things would turn around in the final 21 innings of the series.

The Pirates rallied to defeat the A’s 6-4 on Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon, they rallied again to beat the A’s 5-3 in 13 innings. After the A’s grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the 13th inning, Starling Marte capped off a 4-run rally with a walk off home run to give the Pirates a series victory.

After taking two of three from the A’s, the Pirates are now 6-4-1 in the 11 series they have played this season. This puts the team’s overall record at 16-15, which puts them 3.0 games behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central.

Next up for the Bucs is another two-game sereis against the Rangers. This time, it will be at PNC Park, though. But before we start to focus on the Rangers, let’s examine some key takeaways from their series victory over the A’s.
