The Pittsburgh Pirates started their six-game road trip with one of their best series of the season thus far

Following a 4-1 home stand, the Pittsburgh Pirates embarked on a six-game road trip that started in Houston on Tuesday night. To the surprise of many, the Pirates did not just go toe-to-toe with arguably the best team in baseball, but they won the series.

After taking two out of three from the Astros, the Pirates are now 38-41 this season. This includes being 12-10-4 in the 26 series they have played this season.

With the series victory, the team also continued to play well on the road. The Pirates are now 21-22 in 43 road games this season. While this is not a winning road record, every team’s goal is to play .500 on the road and take care of business at home. The Pirates have taken care of the play .500 on the road part, their issue is they have not played well at PNC Park. That, however, is a conversation for another time.

Next up for the Pirates is a big three-game series at Miller Park in Milwaukee against their divisional rival Brewers. Before we start to focus on the Brew Crew, let’s take a look back at three takeaways from the team’s series victory in Houston.
