The Pirates have a home run issue

Home runs are at an all-time high in Major League Baseball. However, the Pirates do not appear to have gotten the memo. Josh Bell, Starling Marte, Colin Moran, and Jung Ho Kang are the only players on the time with double digit home runs this season.

As a team the Pirates have hit just 109 home runs, which is tied with the San Francisco Giants for 27th in baseball. On the flip side, the pitching staff has allowed 155 home runs which is the 22nd most allowed in baseball.

The team’s home run issues have really come to the forefront since the All-Star Break. During their current 2-14 stretch, the Pirates have allowed more home runs than any other team in baseball. They have also hit the least amount of home runs in baseball since the All-Star Break. Not good, folks!

The Pirates did hit three home runs in Sunday’s 8-7 loss, but so did Michael Conforto. As a result, the Mets out homered the Pirates seven to four over the weekend. Of the 17 runs scored by the Mets this weekend, 11 of them came via the home run ball.

It may sound simple, but the Pirates need to start hitting more home runs while they allow less. Unfortunately, this is certainly something that is easier said than done.
