This past weekend was another miserable one for the Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates are currently in the midst of the worst second half in the history of Major League Baseball. After being swept by the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis over the weekend, the Pirates are now 4-24 since the All-Star Break.

A 4-24 record comes out to a .143 winning percentage. This is the lowest winning percentage for a team after the All-Star Break in MLB history. Woof.

Worst of all, somehow, no one has been fired or held accountable yet.

Since the All-Star Break the Pirates have played nine series. As you may suspect, they are 0-9 in these series. This includes having now been swept in five of the nine series. It does not take someone who is baseball savvy to realize that is a disastrous span of baseball.

Pirate fans had to suffer through a little bit of everything over the weekend. Chris Archer turned in a great start on Friday night only for the bullpen to implode. On Saturday, Joe Musgrove‘s strong start came undone due to poor defense in the 6th inning. In each of these games, the Pirate offense was not good enough scoring a combined 3 runs. Then on Sunday, the offense scored 9 runs but Steven Brault had his first poor start in nearly three months and the bullpen, again, melted down in an 11-9 loss.

Next up for the Pirates is a trip to the West Coast for a three-game series in Anaheim against Mike Trout and the Angels. But before we turn our attention to the Halos, let’s take a look back at three takeaways from the Pirates being swept in St. Louis.
