BREAKING: Pittsburgh Pirates Pitcher Jameson Taillon Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

For the second time in his career the Pittsburgh Pirates ace has undergone Tommy John Surgery

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jameson Taillon continues to be one of the unluckiest people on the planet. The former second overall draft pick’s career is one that has been riddled by injury. On Wednesday, the Pirates announced that these woes are continuing.

The team has announced that on Monday Taillon underwent Tommy John Surgery. This is the second Tommy John Surgery that Taillon has had to have during his career. As a result, he will miss the entirety of the 2020 season.

Taillon, who had not pitched since May 1st, had already been shutdown for the season. This was as a result of Taillon failing to be able to start any sort of throwing program without experiencing pain in his forearm.

Last month it was determined Taillon would be shutdown for the season and would require an operation. Unfortunately, it turns out that this included a second Tommy John Surgery.

Taillon previously had Tommy John Surgery in 2014. This combined with a hernia issue caused him to miss all of 2014 and 2015. In 2016, he made his long awaited MLB debut and posted a 3.38 ERA, 3.71 FIP, and a 1.7 fWAR in 18 starts for the Pirates.

In 2017 Taillon posted a 4.44 ERA, 3.48 FIP, and a 3.1 fWAR in a career high 25 starts. However, he missed a big chunk of the season due to a battle with testicular cancer.

Last season, Taillon finally put a healthy season together and looked like a budding ace. In 32 starts he posted a 3.20 ERA, 3.46 FIP, and a 3.8 fWAR. He also led the National League in complete games.

Prior to having his 2019 season shutdown Taillon had made seven starts. In these seven starts he owned a 4.10 ERA and a 3.80 FIP.

We wish Jamo a speedy recovery as he looks to recovery from his surgery. Hopefully, he will be back at full strength for the Pirates in 2021.
