The 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates, Where Are They Now?

2 of 5

There were many outfielders that played a role in the 2013 season. So, where are they now?

The mainstays in the lineup included Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, and Travis Snider. They combined to be a very productive trio in the outfield and were a big reason the Pirates had the season they had.

Andrew McCutchen

McCutchen was traded in 2018 to the San Francisco Giants, spent half of the year there, and was traded to the New York Yankees midway through the year. He later signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in the off-season and is currently still there. In 2020 he will be looking to rebound after missing a majority of the 2019 season with a torn ACL.

Starling Marte

Obviously, Marte was traded on January 27th, 2020 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the last remaining players from the 2013 season.

Travis Snider

Snider played 84 games for the Bucs in the outfield. He bounced around after leaving the Pirates in 2015. It may come as a surprise to some as he is currently playing for the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate.

Jose Tabata

Tabata played 106 games for the Pirates in 2013, splitting time with Snider in right field as well as filling in for Marte in left field while Marte was on the then disabled list. After his 6-year career in Pittsburgh, he was not able to really catch on anywhere significant. He hasn’t played in the Majors since 2015.

Marlon Byrd

After being traded to the Pirates in August of 2013, Byrd played a huge role in getting them to the playoffs. He has since played for the Phillies, Reds, Giants, and Indians. He was suspended 162 games in 2016 due to PED usage and he declared his career over.
