Christian Arroyo

Christian Arroyo was another formerly high-ranking prospect in the SF Giants system. The infielder was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for Evan Longoria in the 2017-2018 off-season, and then was traded to the Indians last year nearing the deadline. The former top 100 prospect is now out of options.

Arroyo will not be getting playing time at the outset of the season with the Indians. Currently, third base and shortstop are taken up by two MVP candidates in Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor. Second base is his best bet, but still has to overcome offseason signee, Cesar Hernandez. First base is also covered by top tier slugger Carlos Santana.

Although Arroyo has been injury prone the last few seasons, his overall offensive output at the AAA level has been pretty good. In 418 plate appearances, the soon-to-be 25-year-old has a .298/.359/.487 line and 14 long balls at the level. If the Pirates don’t reach an extension with third base prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes so they do not have to worry about service time, Arroyo could be a very good holdover until Hayes is ready, and then provide good depth at all the other infield positions.
