The Pittsburgh Pirates sweep the Brewers, as the bats come alive over the weekend homestand.

In this episode of Rum Bunter Radio, Marty, Nick and Trey celebrate Pittsburgh’s first back to back wins in nearly a year. Who would’ve thought they’d win all three? A sweep of the Brewers sits the Pirates just eight and a half games out of first place in the NL Central. After a season long discussion on “tanking” and position for the future, where do these wins leave the team’s mindset when it comes to success?

Bryan Reynolds’ bat and glove came alive in game one Friday evening, and it didn’t have any time to get cold throughout the rest of the series. In the opening stages of episode seventeen the guys jump into a discussion on why the bats are finally coming alive, and why they need to now more than ever.

With the 2020 Trade Deadline just a week away, the Pirates need guys like Adam Frazier and Derek Holland to do their best at making themselves look sellable. Listen for trade talk, and where the RBR crew thinks the core trade pieces will end up next Monday.

Right when stand-out closer Keone Kela returns to the roster, he takes a seat yet again. After suffering forearm tightness early into his appearance on Friday, Derek Shelton pulled him precautionarily. Being the number one trade chip Ben Cherrington has at his disposal this season, Kela’s health plays a vital role in how this deadline will shape up. How “tradeable” is Keone now that his arm is brought into question?

This season is an opportunity to test out the farm, and set up for the future. With Pirates nation foaming at the mouth to see young studs like Ke’Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz, what’s the holdup? The crew wraps up this episode with an update on the youngsters and gives their thoughts on how soon these guys will be wearing black and gold on the diamond in Pittsburgh.
