Prior to Friday night’s game in Kansas City, the Pittsburgh Pirates made a roster move when they placed a reliever on the injured list.

Friday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates kicked off a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City against the Royals. Prior to the start of the game, the Pirates made a roster move. This roster move saw the team place a reliever on the injured list.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed right-handed reliever Tyler Bashlor on the 10-day IL on Friday afternoon with low back inflammation. To replace Bashlor on the active roster, the Pittsburgh Pirates added left-handed reliever Austin Davis to the roster.

Bashlor was traded by the New York Mets to the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 2nd. With the Pirates, he logged 8.1 innings of work in eight games pitched. In these 8.1 innings of work, Bashlor walked four batters, he hit two, allowed nine hits, and two home runs. All of this resulted in a 8.64 ERA nada 5.30 DRA.

Davis was aquired from the Philadelphia Phillies on August 26th. Prior to being traded, Davis had pitched 3 innings in four games of work for the Phillies this season. Davis had allowed 10 hits, a home run, issued a walk, and struck out two in those 3 innings of work. This resulted in allowing seven earned run, giving him a 21.00 ERA for the season.

In his MLB career, the left-handed Davis owns a 5.86 ERA and a 4.83 DRA in 58.1 innings pitched. He has walked 10.0% of batters faced, struck out 23.8% of batters faced and allowed 11 home runs (1.70 HR/9).

Odds are neither Bashlor nor Davis have much of a future with the Pirates. That said, it was clear that Bashlor was not a MLB level relief pitcher. So, seeing what Davis can do can not hurt for the Pirates. Hopefully, he will pitch well for the Bucs.
