The Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the teams in Major League that were ahead of the curve when it came to COVID-19. Now, they look to provide a location to allow for mass vaccinations.
Back in March, as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning, the Pittsburgh Pirates organization were on the first teams to focus on cleaning their facilities. The Pirates appear to really understand the risks and are utilizing their resources to combat the virus.
As the vaccinations are being rolled out, it appears the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to help out the community. Per Alex Stumpf of DK Pittsburgh Sports, the Pirates are meeting with Allegheny Health Network and Highmark to discuss utilizing PNC Park as a vaccination center.

In the statement the Pittsburgh Pirates gave, the club stated “as the ballpark can allow for mass vaccinations to be done in a safe and socially distant manner.” The outside venue is large and can allow for those eligible to get vaccinated to do so quickly and efficiently while avoiding crowds.
We’ve seen clubs – the San Diego Padres, Los Angles Dodgers, Houston Astros, and New York Mets, among others – utilize their home parks for vaccination sites as well. These parks are the perfect venue for Covid vaccinations and it is good to see that MLB teams are utilizing their full resources to help combat the virus.
The Pirates have continued to push ahead with helping the community fight against the pandemic. As doses of the vaccine that are available continues to increase, utilizing the spacious ballpark will help the community pass these vaccines out quicker.
It is good to see the organization try to help the community get past this virus by offering their services to the health professionals. Eventually, it is expected that PNC Park will officially be used as a mass vaccination site.
