Big Joe heads west, as a bundle of prospects head to the Pittsburgh Pirates
A three team deal was finalized Monday afternoon between the Pittsburgh Pirates, the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets. Joe Musgrove, the team’s ace in 2020 is the only piece sent by the Pirates, allowing Musgrove to return to his hometown for the upcoming season to join a rotation that is already constructed to do damage.
In this emergency episode of Rum Bunter Radio the crew breaks down this headline deal, going down the list of prospects headed to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and give their overall grades on the first trade Ben Cherrington has made in 2021.
Will Padres’ former number seven prospect Hudson Head be worth losing a front end starter? Our team seems to think so. With a high ceiling at the plate and excellent defensive abilities, Head appears to be the best of the return in this trade.
Quality over quantity is often an emphasis, but it’s never a bad thing when you can get both, as Pirates’ general manager Ben Cherington has gotten in this trade. Endy Rodriquez, the now former Mets catching prospect, fills a much needed hole in the Pirates’ organization; players that can provide consistency behind the dish.
As most of his moves have been to this point, Cherrington went arm heavy plucking three pitchers from the Padres’ farm system. Lefty Omar Cruz is another guy with very high potential that got him in the top 20 prospects on San Diego’s list.
Without Joe Musgrove around Pittsburgh’s major league staff begins to run a bit thin. The crew helps fill in what will happen this spring and what the roster will look like as trades continue to unfold.
Batten the hatches, clear the decks, Joe Musgrove is headed to San Diego and RBR has you covered.
