The Pittsburgh Pirates and PNC Bank have extended their naming rights to keep the stadium PNC Park for the next 10 years.

Since the Pittsburgh Pirates home stadium was built back in 2001, the name has been the same:  PNC Park.  The initial agreement was a 20 year deal, with the naming rights being an off the field story to watch.  PNC Park has been synonymous with the Pirates and has consistently been named one of the better ballparks in all of the league.  The name flows from the tongue and is a simple name.

The good news is that team President Travis Williams has been working on a deal with PNC Bank to keep the park the same name.  That deal was officially announced today, with the two sides agreeing to a 10-year deal but the financial terms were not announced.  Jake Crouse, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat writer for MLB.com, has the following quote from Williams:

“It is an honor for us to begin the next chapter with PNC.  We have long been proud of the relationship between our two brands, and are pleased that PNC shares our optimism in the new course we have set as an organization.”

With the deal set to expire before the season, it is good to see the Pittsburgh Pirates and PNC Bank reach an agreement to keep the name the same.  There will be some changes to the logo outside the park, with the PNC Park being more linear and an increase in size with the logo added.  Alex Stumpf of DK Pittsburgh Sports posted the following images:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been synonymous with PNC Bank given the ease of how PNC Park flows and the amount of times the stadium has been voted the best park in baseball.  After being the name for the first 20 years, the Pirates will still play baseball at PNC Park for the next 10 years.
