As we continue our series looking at three goals for each position group with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2021 season next up is catcher

Entering the 2021 season the Pittsburgh Pirates know who their guy will be at the catcher position. Leading the way will be Jacob Stallings who was a Gold Glove Award finalist at the position last season.

Backing up Stallings will likely be defense first veteran Tony Wolters, with Michael Perez, who the Pittsburgh Pirates claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the offseason, starting at Triple-A as depth. Had the Pirates not signed Wolters last month, Perez would have been in line to start the season as the primary backup to Stallings.

While the Pirate catching trio will not mistake anyone as offensive forces, their defensive prowess should be a plus. In fact, the Pittsburgh Pirates should have among the best defensive catching groups in MLB this season.

With Opening Day just slightly over three weeks away we will take a look at three goals for Pirate catchers this season. What should the Pittsburgh Pirates be looking for their catchers to accomplish this season? Well, let’s discuss.
