Baseball is back! No matter how hard it is to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates…

In this episode of Rum Bunter Radio, Trey and Marty sit down to recap the first week of regular season action for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After a feel-good victory to start the season in Chicago, the Pittsburgh Pirates would go on to lose their next six games. After a tough start on Sunday from Mitch Keller the Buccos hit the road for Cincinnati where the going didn’t get any easier.

Arguably the hottest team in baseball the Reds collected wins in all three games including a 14-1 margin in game two.

The Pittsburgh Pirates find themselves at the bottom of the worst division in baseball. They’ve had their struggles in all areas so far, but is there still something to be optimistic about? At Rum Bunter we like to keep it half glass full, but even with an objective lens there are exciting signs for the future being showcased early in this season.

A bullpen that sat at the bottom of the league last season, is young and energized. David Bednar, acquired in the Joe Musgrove trade, has proven to have one of the nastiest arsenals on the team. Luis Oviedo, a Rule Five selection, has looked nearly untouchable, at just 21-years-old. A mix of youth and experience has primed this bullpen to be a serious threat at the Pirates meander closer to contention.

This season will give opportunities to a medley of players, for some, these opportunities are make or break. For Keller, they are do or die. After a shaky start Sunday, Marty and Trey break down what needs to happen next, and why Pittsburgh needs to do everything in their power to avoid letting him walk if the talent is still capable.

To close out the episode the crew previews the weekend series with Chicago, and runs through everything else going on this week in Pirates baseball.
