Offense Finishes the Series Strong

Friday night the Pirate offense was non-existent in their 2-0 loss. After all, they collected just one hit in the loss. However, the final two games of the series the Pirate offense rebounded to score 12 runs on 19 hits.

The offensive improvement in the final two games of the series included a two home run game on Saturday afternoon. These home runs came in back-to-back style from Michael Perez and Kevin Newman.

Sunday afternoon Gregory Polanco hit his 3rd home run of the season. In the final two games of the series the Pirate outfielder was 4-for-8 with a double and his solo home run from Sunday afternoon’s victory.

sO far this season the Pirate offense has been better than was expected. If that can continue, the Pirates can continue to play good baseball and surprise people. The fact they have had the offensive success they have without Ke’Bryan Hayes is an encouraging sign for when they get Hayes back in the lineup.
