Everything starts with a dream

One question was burning in the back of my brain for quite some time to ask Brown and my question dealt with his drive and passion for getting into play by play and journalism in general. Brown’s response was not only well worded but to hear his answer made me realize that he, along with every other aspiring journalist, starts with a dream!

"BROWN’S RESPONSE: ” I grew up a sports fanatic in central Pennsylvania and found out at an early age I was not athletic enough to pursue anything other than to play in a small college. As much as I loved playing it, I also loved listening to broadcasters call games and impersonate many announcers of the day.” Continued: “I just fell in love with the broadcast medium and had it in the back of my mind that it would be an amazing gig to have. I grew up loving two teams, and they were the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Bears. I would travel to Pittsburgh once a year with my father, who had business out in Western PA, and he would take me to a series a year. I would hang out in the lobby of the opposing team’s hotel and get autographs all day and then go to the ball games at Three Rivers Stadium. One thing just lead to another, and I eventually got the job with the Pittsburgh Pirates and spent ten years in the front office, and then I got the chance to meet my heroes and idols. My heroes were Lanny Frattare and Milo Hamilton. I got the chance to know them and learn about them, and then I started getting involved in broadcasting, and my boss actually created a position for me as a broadcasting coordinator. I kind of worked my way into the broadcasting field.”"
