The Pittsburgh Pirates hit a five-game losing skid after rising above the .500 mark. What has led to this most recent slump?

To answer that question, Rum Bunter Radio invited staff writer Noah Wright to join the show to discuss his thoughts on the past two series, Minor League Baseball’s return to action, and everything Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.

Episode 51 came with some momentum for the Pittsburgh Pirates, although one week later, episode 52 is here to help fans break down this past week and understand what has gone into the team’s sluggish offense and slump in the win column.

The show starts with a discussion on the weekend series at PNC park between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Red Birds. Wil Crowe showed more promise on Sunday, but ultimately the Pirates are swept for the second time this season. Was the steep lack of offense the only thing to blame?

Well it certainly wasn’t the bullpen, after a hot start the arms relieving for the Pirates have continued to make statements as the season has gone on. This week the crew selects their bullpen arm of the week, and with many options these picks may surprise you.

In 2020, under the circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Minor League Baseball had to shut down operations, leaving thousands of players without a site for the past season. In 2021 after much deliberation and a delayed start MiLB kicked off their season Tuesday evening.

The guys talk about which players they’re most excited about, and lead into a conversation about recently signed catcher Christian Bethancourt. What will his role be after signing a minor league deal in late April?

To close out the show the trio previews the final two games in San Diego, and gets you set for the rest of the week in Pirates baseball.

Batten down the hatches, clear the decks, and enjoy episode 52 of Rum Bunter Radio.
