The Pittsburgh Pirates make drastic roster moves to start week five of the 2021 season and finished the mid-week against Cincinnati
In this episode of Rum Bunter Radio Marty, Nick and Trey break down the Pittsburgh Pirates most recent roster moves sending players like star third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to the 60 day IL, while sending improving bullpen pitcher Michael Feliz to the wolves.
After losing two out of three games in San Diego over the week, and dropping another set to Chicago, the Pittsburgh Pirates returned home to take on division rival Cincinnati for the second time this season. The crew breaks down this three game set and gives their thoughts on what has led to this slide to last place.
Not only did the Pirates lose the battle Saturday afternoon against the Cubs, they lost the war as well. Colin Moran, starting third baseman, and team leader in home runs and OPS exited the ballgame in the first inning with left groin discomfort.
Following the game the Pirates unsurprisingly moved Moran to the ten day injured list, and weren’t finished when it came to the roster movement. After designating Moran, the team called up outfielder Tony Stokes Jr., designated Feliz, re-activated Geoff Hartlieb, signed former Indian Ben Gamel, and moved Ke’Bryan Hayes to the 60 day IL.
Marty and Nick discuss these moves, and help listeners understand why these moves needed to happen and why they might not signal what you think.
The crew holds their first mock draft of 2021, and forecasts who the Pirates will pick in the heavily anticipated Major League Baseball first year player draft. Will it be Jordan Lawlar, a high schooler gaining no. 1 pick attention? Or one of Vandy’s two generational arms?
