Over the weekend the Pittsburgh Pirates played arguably their best series of the season as they took three of four from the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis

It’s no secret that the 2021 season has been a tough one for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Following a 12-11 start to the season the team fell into a massive rut going just 11-33 in their next 44 games played.

This woeful 44 game stretch was capped off with the Pittsburgh Pirates losing 10 games in a row. Since this 10 game losing streak, however, the Pirates have been playing some good baseball going 6-3 in their last nine games played.

What’s most encouraging about this stretch is the teams it has come against. The Pittsburgh Pirates started the stretch by taking two of three from the Cleveland Indians and then splitting a two-game series with the Chicago White Sox. The Indians and White Sox are the top two teams in the American League Central and are a combined 21 games over .500.

Then this past weekend, the Pirates went into St. Louis. While the Cardinals are struggling, they are still viewed as a team expected to compete in the National League Central. Well, the Pirates went into Busch Stadium, played arguably their best series of the season and took three of four from the Red Birds.

With one of the best series the Pittsburgh Pirates have played this season now in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look back at what led the Pirates to a series victory in Busch Stadium. Starting with a magical Sunday afternoon.
