The Pittsburgh Pirates most valuable trade pieces has been second baseman Adam Frazier. His market looks to be heating up.

The likely places for Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier to land are the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and San Francisco Giants.  The Yankees are struggling, sitting at 41-39. They are nine games out in the division and five in the wild card.  They need to start playing better, but their owner Hal Steinbrenner has said they won’t sell.  With their offensive woes this year and need of a left handed bat, they make sense.

The Giants fit with Tommy La Stella‘s injury and despite their surprise season are likely to make the playoffs.  They could use Frazier as a second baseman and spot him the in the outfield as well.  La Stella is an overall similar player.  A left-handed, high contact hitter is something that the Giants clearly value.

But the team that makes the most sense is the Chicago White Sox.  They’ve dealt with injuries to Luis Robert, Eloy Jimenez, and Nick Madrigal.  They are the best team in the American League Central and the second best team in the American League.  With a clear need in the infield, they have checked in on Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eduardo Escobar.  While talks have circled there, it appears that they have interest in Adam Frazier.

Heyman notes the price tag is likely higher, which makes sense.  Frazier is the starting second baseman in the All-Star game and is batting .326 with an .861 OPS.  Meanwhile Escobar is hitting .243 with a .752 OPS.  Frazier also comes with an additional year of control as Escobar is a free agent at the end of the season.

Overall it looks like Frazier will be traded this summer.  There are plenty of teams who have a need for him.  The Chicago White Sox appear to be the most obvious fit and Jon Heyman has recently connected the teams.  It appears to be a matter of when Frazier is traded, not if.
