Outfielder Matthew Fraizer has been one of the best hitters for High-A Greensboro throughout the 2021 season and he is staying hot for the Grasshoppers

It has been talked about at length here at Rum Bunter, but the Pittsburgh Pirates have assembled one of the best farm systems in baseball. This strong farm system was only added to with the MLB Draft earlier this week.

Following the draft and the upcoming MLB trade deadline the Pittsburgh Pirates legitimately could have the top ranked farm system in baseball come August 1. The Pirate farm system is full of plenty of highly touted and widely talked about prospects.

With a highly touted farm system there will always be under-the-radar, overlooked prospects. One of these prospects for the Pittsburgh Pirates is left-handed hitting outfielder Matthew Fraizer. The 2019 third-round pick has been the best hitter for the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers this season.

Entering play on Wednesday, Fraizer owned a .330/.414/.604 slash line to go with a .273 isolated slugging (ISO) and a wRC+ of 172. Fraizer had struck out in just 18.7% of his trips to plate while drawing walks at a strong 12.2% rate. Fraizer’s 15 home runs lead the Grasshoppers, as does his 11.1% extra base hit rate.

In a 4-3 Grasshoppers victory over the Rome Braves on Wednesday night Fraizer had just one hit. However, despite going just 1-for-5, Fraizer did drive in a run for Greensboro. This gives Fraizer 38 RBI on the season for the Grasshoppers. This hit also extended his current hitting streak to 12 games.

Noah recently wrote about four prospects who could reach Triple-A by the end of the season. One of these four prospects he highlighted was Fraizer. Even if Fraizer does not reach Triple-A by the end of the season he should be promoted to Double-A Altoona and soon. At this point there is nothing left for Fraizer to prove at the High-A level and it’s time for him to be rewarded with a promotion to Double-A.
