As the Tyler Anderson saga continues one thing is clear – the Pittsburgh Pirates will end up trading the left-handed starting pitcher, and, most likely, he will be traded to a NL East club

With Major League Baseball’s trade deadline now being less than 72 hours away the Pittsburgh Pirates are continuing to look to make deals. So far they have traded National League All-Star starting second baseman Adam Frazier to the San Diego Padres, as well as reliever Clay Holmes to the New York Yankees.

These will not be the only trades that the Pittsburgh Pirates make. In fact, on Tuesday afternoon it appeared that they had another trade in place. This trade was set to send left-handed starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for a pair of prospects.

The Anderson trade has hit a snag, however. According to reports there were problems with the medical reports the Pirates received on one of the two prospects they were set to receive in the deal. According to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia these concerns were over starting pitching prospect Cristian Hernandez and not catcher Abrahan Gutierrez.

Due to this hold up the trade has not yet been finalized. While Anderson will be traded, the question now becomes if it will still be the Phillies? Well, according to Salisbury’s report, it may not be the Phillies. Instead, it could be one of Philadelphia’s National League East rivals.

Salisbury is reporting that the New York Mets may have swooped in and made a better offer to Ben Cherington in an effort to land Anderson. If this is the case this could have also been a factor in this deal being put on pause at the moment.

The Mets entered play on Tuesday 3.5 games ahead of the Phillies in the NL East. This could lead to a potential bidding war of sorts between the two teams which would bode well for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
