Thursday night catcher Henry Davis, the number one overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2021 MLB Draft, made his High-A debut and had an impressive night at the plate

Early in the day on Thursday news that fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates had been waiting on broke. This news was that catcher Henry Davis, the number one overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and top rated Pirate prospect, had been promoted to the High-A level.

When the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Davis he was viewed as possibly the best and most advanced college bat in the 2021 MLB Draft. Due to this there was some belief that Davis could go straight to High-A. While it did not happen right away, it still did not take Davis long to make it to Greensboro.

After drafting Davis the Pittsburgh Pirates initially assigned him to the Florida Complex League. In 7 plate appearances Davis hit for a .429/.429/1.143 slash line to go with a 284 wRC+. This came after Davis went 3-for-7 with a pair of doubles, a home run and 4 RBI.

Now with the Grasshoppers, Davis joins an already uberly talented roster in Greensboro. Davis joins fellow top-100 prospects Quinn Priester, Liover Peguero and Nick Gonzales in Greensboro. In fact, Pirate fans could get a big look at the future on Friday night as Priester is scheduled to start for the Grasshoppers and he could now be pitching to Davis.

In his debut with Greensboro on Thursday night Davis was not behind the dish. Instead, he served as the designated hitter for the Grasshoppers. Serving as their DH, Davis was able to get on base twice in his High-A debut.

Davis finished his night 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple. His triple came in his first at-bat and nearly resulted in an inside-the-park home run for Davis.

It did not take Davis long to begin to turn heads as a Greensboro Grasshopper. Now that Davis is at the High-A level he should set himself up for an invite to MLB Spring Training in 2022. Watching how Davis performs in the final few weeks of the minor league season will be high on the list of Pirate fan’s to do list.
