Will the Pittsburgh Pirates secure the number one overall pick again?

With the number one overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Louisville catcher Henry Davis. Since joining the Pirates, Davis has done nothing but hit at hotel Florida Complex League and now with the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers.

With the Pittsburgh Pirates sliding it appears they could be in position to secure the top overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft as well. Currently, the Pirates have the third worst record in Major League Baseball, but they are closing the gap.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Baltimore Orioles both still have a worse record than the Pittsburgh Pirates. Currently tied with the Texas Rangers, the Pirates remain 4 games behind the Orioles and 3 behind the Diamondbacks.

If the Pirates are going to be a disaster as they have been this season, they may as well land the top overall pick in the draft. While this may be difficult to do, especially with Baltimore and Arizona both being, well, awful, it certainly seems doable.

Again, no one wants to see the Pirates lose. But of they’re going to lose go big and go for the top overall pick int he draft in order to maximize the amount of talent you are bringing into your organization. Right now, the top overall pick seems possible for the Pirates.
