Following a big week at the plate Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Endy Rodríguez has been named the Low-A Southeast Player of the Week

This past offseason the Pittsburgh Pirates brought in a plethora of highly touted young prospects. One of these prospects was switch hitting catcher Endy Rodríguez. Throughout the 2021 season, Rodríguez has shown why he was sought after by Ben Cherington and the Pirates this past offseason.

As Kody discussed on the site on Monday, Rodríguez’s bat has progressed throughout the 2021 season. In 411 plate appearances with Low-A Bradenton this season the 21-year-old Rodríguez has hit for a .294/.384/.508 sash line to go with a .215 isolate slugging (ISO), a healthy 12.2% walk rate and an 18.0% strikeout rate that is better than league average.

Rodríguez has hit 14 home runs this season to go with 24 doubles and 5 triples. This gives the switch hitting Rodríguez a healthy 10.5% extra base hit rate this season.

This past week Rodríguez’s big season with the Marauders continued. This big week led to him being named the Low-A Southeast Player of the Week.

For the week Rodríguez it a healthy .387 with a pair of home runs. He drove in 9runs this past week for the Marauders while posting a very strong OPS of 1.135.

While many fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates now look at 2021 number one overall draft pick Henry Davis when thinking about the future at catcher. Rodríguez, however, should not be overlooked. He has hit throughout the season and there is no guarantee that Davis will stick at catcher.

While Rodríguez may not stick at catcher either, he has also played the outfield, first base, and has gotten starts as a designated hitter this season. Moving forward the Pittsburgh Pirates will find a place for Rodríguez’s bat if he continues to hit the way he has, making him a prospect that Pirate fans need to continue to monitor moving forward.
