The Pittsburgh Pirates have a top notch farm system filled with well known hitters. One hitter, however, who should not be overlooked is outfielder Bligh Madris
The talent and depth of the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system has been discussed time and time again. Both MLB Pipeline and FanGrpahs rank the Pirate farm system as one of the top 5 in all of baseball.
This deep, talented farm system is filled with talented hitters. This includes in the outfield where prospects such as Travis Swaggerty, Hudson Head, Cal Mitchell, and Canaan Smith-Njigba are all highly touted prospects.
All of that said there is one outfield prospects who appears to be getting overlooked. An outfield prospect that fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates need to keep an eye one moving forward. This outfield prospect is Bligh Madris.
After starting the season with Double-A Altoona, Madris made his Triple-A debut. Entering play on Wednesday night Madris owned a .269/.354/.432 slash line to go with a wC+ of 111 in 357 plate appearances.
Even if the future for Madris is a fourth outfielder that is a role where he cold find success. He hits the ball hard and has a good eye at the plate (10.9% walk rate at Double-A this season). This has helped lead to success on the season.
An outfielder that this form the left side of the plate is always valued. Especially when it’s a hitter who can also hit for power. This alone makes Madris a prospect worth watch the rest of this season and in spring 2022.
Maybe the most encouraging thing for Madris is that he continues to improve. His results at Triple-A this season are the best of his Major League career. As Madris matures as a hitter he appears to be continuing to grow as a hitter.
When looking at the Pirate farm system do not overlook Madris. The left-handed hitting outfielder can be a quality fourth outfielder with the Pirates. Pirate fans should be keeping an eye on Madris down the stretch this season and beyond.
